  • In the 6th arrondissement, at the intersection of Boulevard du Montparnasse and Avenue de l'Observatoire, in front of the restaurant "La Closerie des Lilas", you will discover this sculpture depicting Marshal Ney. Created in 1853, this work is the work of renowned sculptor François Rude. A great achievement. You can come in RER B, Port Royal station, just in front.

  • It is simply a bronze statue created by the French artist, François Rude (1784-1855). This is the first in a series of portraits of generals that will be made during the Second Empire. This statue is really impressive because you can see Marshal Ney leading his troops to the charge with the sword in his hand. The statue was completed by the artist in 1853. Happy because François Rude is a Burgundian, born in Dijon, and I invite you to visit the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon which is in my opinion the most beautiful museum in France after that of the Louvre. You can see different statues of this sculptor, a copy of this statue exists in the museum but this one is marble (I guess). I recognize that a bronze statue is prettier. Otherwise we can also see his work "Departure of the Volunteers of 1792" which is under the triumphal arch of the Place de l'Étoile in Paris Not far from this statue is the statue of Georges Bernados, a modern work. Interesting to compare modern and ancient art. Personally, I prefer ancient art because if I look at Ney's statue, the details are really impressive.
