  • The Flower Market on the Island of the City was located in place Louis Lepine, also extending along the parapet of the Quai de Corse overlooking the Seine between the Notre-Dame Bridge and the Bridge at Change, at the beginning of the 19th century. A somewhat unusual and emblematic place with an old-fashioned but refreshing charm of Paris, home to the Guimard edicule of the only metro station leading to the Isle of the City (Metro Cité), it has been renamed "Queen Elizabeth II Flower Market", and it is Her Majesty Elizabeth II herself, who on 7 June 2014 unveiled the street plaque bearing her new name during her official visit to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Composed of pavilions mainly made of iron and cast iron giving it both a covered and uncovered market air, you can find all kinds of plants ranging from trees to the most fragrant, colorful or exotic flowers, such as the beautiful corollas flourishing within The House of the Orchid. Open daily from 08:00 to 19:30, the Queen Elizabeth II Flower Market also offers a wide range of decorations, gardening tools, and is also transformed, every Sunday since 1881, into the Bird Market, some of which are specimens rare, which brightened the aisles with their squids and chants. Even if from time to time, groups of tourists come to encrust themselves among the customers and walkers of the market, not hesitating to drink at his Wallace Fountains with fresh drinking water, the Queen Elizabeth II Flower Market is aging badly, is no longer flourishing, and seems some days to be abandoned. Édith Gallois, Paris councillor since March 2008, wants to renovate it by 2040 and make it a showcase of Parisian biodiversity by promoting, among other things, species from France and mellifers, based on a pharaonic project desired in its time by former President François Hollande. The years of promises of renovation and upgrading of the premises have undermined the hope of many market traders, some of them septuagenarians, that it will regain its former luster, and the first proposals put forward by the architects apparently did not delight them. Let's hope that the Queen Elizabeth II Flower Market will survive and regain a second youth while maintaining its authenticity.

  • I went to bird market on Sunday. Various kinds of vivid birds are sold. Other unusual bird cages are also on sale. I think that it is a spot that the bird lover does not endure. There is a florist on both sides and you can enjoy seasonal flowers together.
