#3 of 7 in Casinos in Ile-de-France
A 57 hectare (140 acre) horse-racing facility with historic roots, Longchamp Racecourse sits on the banks of the Seine River. It's primarily used for flat racing and noted for its variety of interlaced tracks plus a famous hill that provides a real challenge to competing thoroughbreds. Tracks range from 1,000 to 4,000 m (3,280 to 13,123 ft) in length, with 46 different starting posts. Horses first raced at the track on Sunday, April 27, 1857. The Emperor Napoleon III and his wife, Eugénie, attended this inaugural event, having sailed down the Seine River on their private yacht to watch the third race. Artists have also been attracted to this track. Among those who've painted here are Édouard Manet in 1867 and Edgar Degas in 1871. • July 14th, the anniversary of the Revolution. It was a previous information that it was usually deserted, but there was a music event at the same time on this day, and the ticket was sold out on the day. You need to check in advance. The nearest station was a free bus from porte maillot metro station.

  • I attended Longchamp racecourse for the first time to see Enable win the Arc for the second time. There were a lot of teething problems with the new facilities. I am sure the track will have learned some valuable lessons from all the feedback. We were lucky enough to have grandstand seats so we were far from disappointed and will be attending again this year. A good track and one of the best meetings in the world.
  • Quite an experience to watch a horse race there. One of its kind...
