It is astonishing by its size (even if it is only a "miniature" reproduction of the original one of Belfort). The sculpture contains surprises: the lion of Belfort looks towards the statue of my freedom (carved by Bartholdi too). On the sculpture there is a signature: "A Bartholdi SC-it" (Auguste Bartholdi carved me). The Medallion representing Colonel Denfert-Rochereau was added in 1920. It is a monument to see if you pass close by. There are many things to see in place Denfert-Rochereau or in the neighborhood close to the statue, shopping streets, perfect for a stroll in a Paris-village of old-fashioned movies.

I have attached a photo of this work. This is a tribute to Colonel Denfert-Rochereau, who during the 1870 war defended the city of Belfort against the Prussians. In the 14th arrondissement of Paris, in the middle of the place Denfert-Rochereau, you will discover a replica composed of plates of copper repulsed, reduced to one third of the size of the original of Belfort and made in 1880 by the same sculptor. From a height of 4 meters and length of 7 meters, this replica was inscribed in the historical monuments in 2003. This imposing sculpture is to be seen. You can come by Metro, lines 4, 6, station "Denfert Rochereau" or RER B, same station.
Impressive monument for Colonel Denfert-Rochereau (Franco-Prussian War), replica of the lion statue in Belfort.
In the middle of the traffic still so silent. The lion king symbolise strength and resilience of the France.
