  • Completed in 1885, this superb bronze sculpture is the work of the illustrious Jules Dalou. She represents the drunken Silenus who is barely on a donkey, maintained by men, children and a nymph. Make the turn and admire all the details and the finesse of this work. Take RER B station "Luxembourg".

  • This allegorical bronze sculpture is located in the Luxembourg Garden in the north western part near the entrance Street Guynemer. It is the work of Aimé Jules Dalou in 1885. This surprising piece sits on a pedestal, which stands in the middle of a flower bed. We see a huge flabby "the Silene" figure that drunk, is kept on a donkey by nymphs, adolescent and men. Naked bodies seem to be crumbling under the weight of Silenus; You can admire the attention to detail of the artist, who has placed an Apple in the hand of the child and the Cherub who clawed the grape! Silenus is actually a satyr, generally young and handsome in antiquity, who embodies the fertility of the Earth and men, but that is all in wisdom. He is the protector of the god Dionysos, which has several attributes as the God of wine, excesses, pleasures, but also theatre and the tragedy. Here we understand why Dale, who was hired in the Paris commune, took pleasure in this work, as a staging, against foot of mythology and absolutely unique in its kind symbolizing "the triumph of the plutocrat sprawled on the" people that it overwrites "." A must see!

  • Very pretty. The finishes are perfect. We can't approach it too much, the lawn is forbidden.
