  • This bronze monument is located at the top of the United States square, which is ultimately logical! Work of the famous sculptor Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904), this ensemble sits in a space planted with trees and in the middle of a green lawn. Bartholdi is internationally known and has made numerous statues in France and around the world, including the famous "freedom lightening the world" in the entrance to the port of New York. This Parisian work, made in 1895, at the request of the USA, was therefore naturally attributed to him. The architect is also very well known and appreciated at that time, since it concerns Jean Camille Formigé (1845-1926). The monument is first exhibited at the Salon de Paris in 1892 and then placed on this place in 1895. A copy was inaugurated in 1900 in New York. On the pedestal one can read: "LAFAYETTE and WASHINGTON/tribute to FRANCE/in recognition/its generous contests/in the struggle of the people of the United States/for independence and freedom" Bartholdi represented, Washington and LAFAYETTE, standing in habit. They face each other and shake hands. Lafayette holds the two flags of France and the United States in his left hand; Washington is in General's dress with the sword on its flanks. This monumental work is a good Bill and we recognize the signature of Bartholdi, anxious for details! This monument is accessible by metro station "Boissière" line no. 6; Then you have to go up the Avenue Kléber to the North and take the first right on Galileo Street to the end, i.e. 300 m of journey

  • As you walk through the United States square, you cannot fail to see this monument that was offered by the United States in appreciation of the installation of the statue of liberty in New York. He represents Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, Marquis de La Fayette, who worked alongside the Americans for the war of independence against British colonial rule, and Chief of staff George Washington. This bronze sculpture, made in 1895, is the work of the sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, who died in Paris in 1904. A beautiful realization. Come by Metro, line stations "Boissière" or "Kléber".
