  • This portico is one of the remains of the universal exposition of 1900. The Pavilion of the manufacture de Sèvres had presented it as a portal, to valorize the French know-how and the genius in the then emerging style of ' Art Nouveau '. It must be said that this 12 m high portico brings together all the artistic aspects of French ceramics production. It is made entirely of mosaic tiles assembled. One can see a low relief representing workshops of pottery in allegory, framing a carved NAIADE. The top of the portico is in a working cornice with intertwined plant elements, the theme of Art Nouveau. The inscription "SEVRES" on the background of green foliage, recalls the name of the manufacture, which is already prestigious at that time. A large medallion is located in the middle of a frame in a full arch, decorated with an ornate border with always fruits and foliage. The polychrome background depicts flowering branches and long foliage on a sky blue background, with a fronted scarab. In the Center, a woman covered with a large draped, represents the creations of mosaics, with an oven and the monogram of the brand. The name of the sculptor Jules Coutan (1848-1939) is engraved on the edge of the Medallion. This work is located on the wall of the adjoining building of Felix Desruelles square, right next to the Church of Saint Germain des Pres. A must see.

  • During the universal exposition of 1900, this monumental ceramic door looked out over the Palais de la manufacture de Sèvres. It is the work of architect Charles Risler and Parisian sculptor Jules Alexis Coutan, who died in his hometown in 1939. In this way they illustrated the use of the manufacture's products. This door took place on a gable of a dwelling giving directly to the Félix Desruelles square. A great work to see in its details. Beautiful scenery.
