La France Renaissante Reviews

Donation of the Danish community to France, in 1930, it had been refused by the Municipal Council of Paris in 1952. The reason is that "Joan of Arc" cannot be represented as "Warrior in a knitwear, wearing a helmet and brandishing a sword". Horror misfortune say they in heart!! To avoid a diplomatic incident, this warrior on horseback, "La France Renaissante" was renamed as an allegory to the speech of General de Gaulle who, at a ceremony in London in 1942, had magnified the French forces at the Battle of Bir Hakeim (co Germans in May June 1942 ), which gave its name to the bridge. phew.... We're saved. So this statue waited until 1958 to be placed there!! In spite of himself, De Gaulle finds himself here the unexpected saviour of the Franco Dane friendship. That being said, this statue, the work of Danish sculptor Holger Wederkinch in 1930, is very expressive and successful. The effect of movement is amazing realism and I love this work which, in addition, perfectly decorates the bridge of Bir Hakeim, which also is a work of art from 1905. Many newlyweds, mostly Asian, come to take pictures on this plain land with the Eiffel Tower in perspective.
Pěkná socha zobrazující Johanku z Arku na mostě uprostřed řeky. Její krása ale spočívá i v poloze v blízkosti řeky a Eiffelovky. more »A nice statue depicting Joan of Ark on a bridge in the middle of a river. Its beauty, however, lies in the position near the river and the Eiffel Tower.
Beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. Easily accessible and away from the hustle and bustle of the Trocadero/Mars fields... To discover after a walk from the 15th arr on the island.
Who would have believed it, it was a Joan of Arc that it was originally, offered as a diplomatic gift by the embassy of a Nordic country and thus probably become a little embarrassing. We kept the symbol in the title of the work, but without mixing it with the myth of the national warrior and we had to make sure we didn't show it too closely. It is true that she evokes a little those strange evils where her trembling sword seems to cast a spell on her enemies, in a wildness where the horse seems to take away his rider. Hum.
