  • I don't live in Paris, but I have a hard time understanding how you can renovate a column for 40 million euros. This is a project called a rigorous restoration of a classified site that will cost the French taxpayer 120 million euros, a third of which will be on the restoration of the monument of the Medici column and its fountain I really have a hard time understanding and I have to be explained. The Vézelay site is 10 million euros a year and here we spend 40 million in one year! I believe that at some point, we have to stop funding through the public domain, if this site has value, we have to charge an entrance fee!

  • Built in 1574 and listed as a historical monument since 1862, the Medici Column is a Doric column that was part of the "Queen's Hotel" that belonged to Catherine de Medici from 1519 to 1589. This building, which became the Hotel de Soissons, was destroyed in the 18th century but the Medici Column was saved from destruction in 1748 thanks to the intervention of the literator Louis Petit de Bachaumont, who has a street bearing his name 800 m away, in the Montorgue district Its renovation began at the same time as that of the Stock Exchange, which it dominates from its 31 meters high. The inauguration of the adjacent building as the Stock Exchange - Pinault Collection is planned for the end of 2019 but the Medici Column itself is still in its straitjacket and for the moment, there is no sign of the end date of its renovation which, we hope, will make him superb. Ideally, both structures would be unveiled to the public on the same day. To access the Medici Column, you can: - either stop at the station Les Halles of line 4 of the metro or Châtelet-les-Halles of RER A and B, then either cross the Nelson Mandela Garden towards the Stock Exchange or cross the Forum des Halles up to the UGC Ciné Cité Les Halles cinema and take either the Louvre elevator or the Louvre's Porte du Louvre exit from the Forum des Halles (about 5 minutes walk) - or you stop at the Louvre-Rivoli station on Line 1 of the metro, take the Rue du Louvre, then The Rue Berger , turn left into Sauval Street, then right into Viarmes Street (about 10 minutes walk).
