L'île aux Cygnes, Paris

4.1
#5 of 9 in Nature in Paris
Discover a small, unique escape from the city at L'île aux Cygnes, an artificial island in the middle of the Seine. The narrow islet mostly consists of a tree-lined walkway where you can jog, stroll, or simply people-watch from one of the benches. At the end of the path stands a Statue of Liberty, a one-fourth scale replica of its larger relative in New York City. Nearby, look out for the public workout space and playground tucked under the Grennelle Bridge. • Riding on 2, arrondissement, this small island makes us see Paris in low... The modernism of the front of the Seine and the memory of the copy of Bartholdi... To be done absolutely during a passage in the beautiful capital.

  • All in length, the Swan island is crossed by the Pont de Grenelle and the Pont de Bir-Hakeim which served many times of scenery in films such as the brilliant inception for example. To be honest, I do not find it attractive at all in winters, but during the beautiful days it allows a beautiful walk, bordered on both sides of trees, of which some signs inform us about the specimen, and benches turned to the Seine for enjoy the scenery to the fullest. The Swan island offers a magnificent view of the Eiffel Tower, relatively close, and has, of course, housed the statue of liberty for some decades. I find that the location was perfectly chosen to install it, and it is rather well-highlighted, beautifull with a beautiful lighting at night. The end where the statue of liberty is located, is also the place around which all the cruise ships turn.

  • This is a fantastic place to discover in Paris if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet in the city. This narrow strip of island, 36 feet wide, is easily accessible from several bridges including pont de Grenelle. The island is only 900 yards long and has a tree lined path down the middle with nicely shaded park benches frequently spaced. It's a lovely place to enjoy lunch while watching the boats go by along the Seine. Joggers are plentiful, benefitting from the shade, isolation and flat, paved pathway. I suggest starting your walk from the Grenelle bridge as you'll first encounter the one-quarter scale replica of the Statue of Liberty. The statue faces toward her big sister in New York York and is a fine sight to see in Paris! Also, as a bonus, under the bridge are various pieces of exercise equipment and rock climbing walls. Being, shaded by the bridge and with a nice breeze off the river, it was quite cool here, even on a hot day. Walking towards pont de Bir-Hakeim, you'll enjoy wonderful views of the Eiffel Tower which is just ahead. We were glad we stumbled upon this more restful piece of Paris as it allowed us to recharge a bit before a short walk brought us to the crowds at the Trocadero and the Eiffel Tower!
  • A nice artificial island with a copy of the Statue of Liberty from New York. It also has some climbing walls and other workout appliances. It's fun to hang out and you get a nice view from the Eifel Tower.
