Jardin des Tuileries, Paris

4.5
#3 of 110 in Parks in Paris
Separating the Louvre from Place de la Concorde, Jardin des Tuileries are semi-formal French gardens that have survived centuries. Catherine de Medici created them in 1564, and they were revamped 100 years later. The gardens serve as a cultural walking space, where Maillol statues complement those by Rodin and Giacometti. To relax, go towards one of the benches at either of the two ponds, where people drive model boats on the water. For a quick snack, stop at one of the cafes, ice cream shops, or crépe stalls surrounding the space. The low cut of the impeccably manicured hedges around the statues allow you to photograph each one in full sunlight. • This was a trip down memory lane for my wife and I as we first visited the gardens in 1981. We were not disappointed and spent several hours walking around the wonderful gardens and tree shaded paths....  more »
  • Expectations more than disappointed ... Of the grounds that might be wonderful, are left to carelessness. Gravel which raises a fuss at the first gust of wind, trees and bushes covered with dust, a few flowers and not treated, garbage on the ground (perhaps for a few bins as well as for the rudeness), but the worst thing is seeing people urinating on the walls , on trees and in bushes and the following smell invading the grounds. A disappointment.

  • The Jardin des Tuileries was the first garden of Paris of public taking advantage of its excellent location between the Louvre and the place de la Concorde. In 1564 he began the construction of the Palace of the Tuileries under the capricious orders of Catherine de Médicis gave him extensive and beautiful gardens of Florentine style, both owe their name to the factories of "tuilles" (Texas) that were in place. At that time the gardens were surrounded by high walls that provided privacy to the high society that walked by them. The gardens were later transformed English style. In 1870 the Tuileries Palace was destroyed at the hands of the Paris Commune, but the gardens survived until our days as public gardens.

  • I visited this gardens several times in the past but this time I had a purpose! I wanted to see the spot where one of my favourite bands recorded a video near the entrance from Place De La Concorde. Generally its a relaxing park with statues, ponds and trees. Very tranquil atmosphere overall.
  • One of the most beautiful gardens in Paris. I literally hang there every time I go in city. Facing the Louvre Museum, it’s one of most chill places in Paris. The only « problem » is that there is almost nothing to eat in the garden probably as it’s a historical place. You also should take a look on the edge of the river just on the left of the gardens cause it’s just LOVELY and peaceful. If you care about your shoes I advise to take some you don’t really care about cause they will be white and dusty in the end. Have a great time !
  • This is good for a quick jog but avoid the smoothie sorbet stand--it made me sick. Interesting tree cultivation in the modern part of the garden. The scale of everything is rather large so this is for those inclined to outdoor picnics in fields. There are seats to create intimate spaces but no actual intimacy.
  • The best freebie in Paris. A lovely walk in the park in beautiful surroundings. Stop at one of the ponds and sit for a while on one of the numerous chairs. The ice cream stands will cost you £€$ for very little. Buy some lunch or snacks from a shop before you go. Monoprix is good.
  • This is one of the most beautiful gardens / parks in Paris. It sits between the Louvre museum and the Champs Éllysee. It has beautiful fountains and statues through out. The fountains have ducks and big carp that swim around them. The chairs are movable and very comfortable to lounge in and watch the world go by.
