This ephemeral mural (will disappear with the completion of the work planned for 2020), signed by the experienced Lyon graffiti artist Brusk (born in 1976, already with more than 28 years of profession, artist often referred to as a detail aesthete) is proof of this because it is here an order from the urban planner Olivier Landes to accompany the work brought to the Montparnasse station. The fresco is produced on an eight-storey white prefabricated building used as construction housing. The particularity of the work is the theme chosen by the graffiti artist because it is inspired by a railway accident that took place on October 22, 1895 at the Montparnasse station, hence its title. Train No. 56 entered the station too quickly that day had not been able to stop and had smashed the bumper and the front wall of the station, landing several metres down in the station square, fatally injuring a newspaper saleswoman and causing numerous Damage. Dealing with such a theme can be risky, even several years later, but it was in a tragicomic style that Brusk designed his fresco. The train here looks like a toy train and it is candy that escapes from the convoy instead of coal. Using mainly the brush, despite the large area to be covered, rather than the aerosol bomb, the effect of movement and depth is quite successful. Good initiative of the urban planner in charge of the project, giving back to art, here that of the street, a place that has always been very important in the history of the Montparnasse district.
This art work was directly across the street from our hotel. I’m not sure what it represented until I read the previous review. more »
