  • In the 5th arrondissement, at the corner of Rue Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire and Cuvier, opposite the "Fontaine Cuvier" and on the wall of the garden of plants, you will discover a Wallace Fountain. These late 19th century cast-iron drinking water points were financed by Richard Wallace, collector, Member of the British Parliament, and created by the sculptor Charles-Auguste Lebourg. At the last census, 120 Wallace fountains were counted in the capital... large and small models, with balusters... which makes an average of six per rounding. The particularity of this one, is that it is wall-mounted and this is the only remaining copy in Paris. This work was created in 1872 by the sculptor and the Foundry d'art du Val D'osne in Haute Marne. It works and has benefited from a restoration of 2015. You can come by Metro, line 7, station "place Monge" or lines 7, 10, station "Jussieu".

  • While strolling around the garden of plants, rue Geoffroy Saint Hilaire in the 5th arrondissement, I noticed an unusual Wallace Fountain in Paris. It is cast iron painted in dark green and is leaning against the wall of the garden. It comes in the form of a vertical panel in cast iron with pilasters, supporting an arch pediment, with in its Center a mascaron in the form of NAIADE, topped by a half shell Navy. The water comes out in a small net from the mouth of the figure and falls into a basin worn by a suspended foot with overlapping volutes. Two Tritons, head down decorate the frame of the fountain. At the foot, you can read the engravings of the sculptor "Lebourg" dated 1872 and the manufacturer "Val Dosne". I drank water at this fountain, it is fresh and pleasant. This fountain is apparently the only survivor of this type in Paris. It was renovated in 2015 and is located at the corner of Rue Geoffroy Saint Hilaire and Cuvier to the right of the entrance to the garden of plants; It is accessible by metro station "Jussieu" lines n ° 7 and 10; Then you have to take Linné Street to Cuvier Street where the rue Geoffroy Saint Hilaire starts.
