  • This fountain is certainly very beautiful and expressive, but every time I come here, I look for water effects. In fact it's normal, the basin is full but there is no jet of water, the characters having to reflect on the "water mirror" of the basin!! It is located in Jean Perrin Square behind the Grand Palais, on the edge of the Champs Elysees. In 2017 a large semi-transparent golden vase was placed in the center, and since then it has disappeared!! The great works of the Grand Palais in progress, suggest that this fountain, which has been stripped of its central object, risks being sacrificed ... In addition, unnecessary barriers to channeling visitors distort this work, which nevertheless has an obvious artistic value. The white marble decorations on the margin are dedicated to the Seine and its nine tributaries. Each of the three groups of women is surrounded by three children who symbolize the streams (L'Aube, L'Yonne, Le Loing, La Marne, etc.). Work of François Raoul Larche (1860-1912), this fountain from 1910 is particularly neat on the details of the sculptures and the richness of the decorations. By observing the style, it is mainly "Neo Baroque" by the influx of mannerism effects, as "Art Nouveau" although there are some details borrowing from "Nature". Yet it is true that , Raoul Larche has produced many works related to nature and has had many awards including at the Salon des Arts and a gold medal , at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 . So there is still time to enjoy this fountain, before "The sacrosanct holy modernity" can come to be, make it disappear!! A petition has apparently been launched to preserve it.

  • This sculpture is a basin that represents the Seine and its tributaries. These are three sculpted groups, each representing a naked young woman surrounded by naked children or teenagers. In fact, the river is the woman and the tributaries are the children. Not easy to understand. I think that basin would be better off in a park.
