Classic-style, it was built in 1712 under the architect Pierre bullet's Cup. It seems that it is the first public fountain in the capital. Originally, it was in one of the towers of the Priory of the Church of St. Martin of the Champs. It was only in 1882, after restoration, that it was moved to its current location. It was spared during the urban restructuring organised by Baron Haussmann. It's not working. You can come by Metro, lines 4, 8, 9, station "Strasbourg Saint Denis".

It is backed by a tower of the former Priory of Saint Martin of the Champs. It was built at the request of Louis XIV in 1712, by the architect, Pierre bullet (1639-1716) then charged with the nearby church of Saint Martin of the fields. This fountain comes in the form of a large corner pediment framed by two pilasters, with alternating-sized stones with vermiculated and dripping décor. The Center is arranged on three levels, with on the top, a sculpture depicting a nave with sails floating on the water, which resembles the weapons of Paris. In the Middle, a marble plaque bears inscriptions reminiscent of the "rescue" of the fountain in 1882. On the bottom, the function of Fontaine, is ensured by a mascaron lion-headed bronze, which should spit water if the fountain worked. At the top, a stylized half shell, recalls the water field. Recalling the Royal order, the pediment is documented by a crest of three lilies, surrounded by algae and shells. In fact, this fountain has been twice rescued. In 1850, the Baron Haussmann, taken from a frenzy of renovation of Paris, wants to demolish it, but its function of water distribution in the neighborhood makes it back. Then in 1876, the destruction was again on the agenda, when Paris was endowed with a water distribution network. It is the antique dealers, assisted by Victor Hugo, who bend the administration. Victor Hugo then takes on the responsible architect by writing "demolish the tower and the fountain.... No, but demolish the architect... Yes!! Restored in 1882, it is moved to its present location. This fountain is very nice Bill, but is not very well known, by its location quite apart. Still, it's worth the trip. It is accessible by metro stations "Réaumur Sebastopol" lines n ° 3 and 4, then it is necessary to take the street Réaumur and then the first left, rue Saint Martin, up to rue Vertbois. You can also come by the Metro station "Arts et Métiers" and take rue Réaumur then rue Saint Martin on the right.
