It was built in 1847 to replace the previous already named "de Joyeuse". It is powered by the Ourcq Canal. It benefited from a restoration in 2008. On the other hand, the space is closed by a grid. The bronze Angelot statue is the work of the sculptor Isidore Romain Boitel, who died in 1861. Its name is engraved on the base to the right of the indication "Ourcq". A beautiful Fountain.
Cette très mignonne fontaine se trouve au n° 41 rue de Turenne , dans une niche en façade de l'immeuble . Elle date de l'époque , où Paris manquait d'eau potable , car celle de la Seine était impropre... more »This very cute fountain is located at no. 41 Turenne Street, in a niche in front of the building. It dates from the time when Paris lacked drinking water, as that of the Seine was improper. After Napoleon did open the channel Ourcq in 1820, to supply the capital, this fountain is created in 1841. Its name comes from what it is built on the site of the former Hotel of Joyeuse, Marc Miron property, first doctor of Henri III, in 1580. It comes in the form of a classic style with Doric pilasters and flat pediment framing. Inside, a niche, with half a barrel vault, carved reeds, birds and a Caduceus, houses a statue of child in bronze, placed on a pedestal decorated with waves. The word "Ourcq" is the only engraved on the pedestal. The child holds a jar and lets flow of water into a large basin, which serves as a fountain. The traditional mascaron in bonze, allows the flow of water of the Cauldron. This water was so "seine" in 1841, compared to that of the Seine.
Tucked into an alcove this small simple fountain adds to the surrounding buildings to create the fun of discovering Paris.
