  • This fountain, which dates from 1995, sits in the middle of the square René Viviani, on the banks of the Seine Rive Gauche. It surprises, by the unique and recognizable style, of the sculptor Jeanclos (of his real name, Georges Jaenkelowitsch; 1933-1997) marked by the waxes of war, as a Jew, Jeanclos is permanently seeking spirituality. Pupil of the school of fine arts of Paris, her works are all full of tenderness, serenity and spirituality. This fountain is in the same style as the newer one of the Stalingrad square. This is how the bronze was of the fountain, is dotted with breasts of woman, which tends to prove that Jean Clos considers this attribute of the woman, as a sweetness and a comfort! Jean Clos was inspired by the religious history of Saint Julien the poor, to create his work. Saint Julien, who has violent instincts, then repents himself by doing good. He also draws in the news of Gustave Flaubert in 1877 "the three tales". This fountain is the affirmation of the Act of love, compassion and tenderness. The characters "children" located around, are in this arrangement, taking in arms, as an act of love. These characters literally emerge from the fountain, like the symbolized body of a woman, from which they appear to be derived. They have a smooth face, shaved hair and are dressed in strange clothes, sometimes bed sheet or shroud.. Pity takes hold of the visitor, one can compare these works to compositions of the Zen or modern Gothic style. The fountain is located in the center of a roundabout surrounded by flowerbeds, which advantageously softens the visitor's perception. It is worth the trip for three reasons; its unique style, the beauty of the surrounding garden and the beautiful church of Saint Julien the poor, of a Gothic Romano style affirmed. It is accessible by the Metro station "Saint Michel Notre Dame", line no. 4 and RER B and C

  • In the 5th arrondissement, in the Centre of the René Viviani square, you will discover this modern fountain commissioned by the city of Paris in 1995 to replace a Wallace Fountain. This fountain bears the name of "Saint Julien the poor" who is the patron saint of the neighboring Church. It is the work of the Parisian sculptor Georges Jeanclos, whose real name is Georges Jeankelowitsch, who died in his hometown in 1997 and who had his workshop at the Bastille. This work represents in its angles characters that express the support of the body of the other in an act of love, tenderness and compassion. You can come by Metro, line 4, station "Saint Michel-Notre Dame" or RER B, C, same station.
