  • For the second time I visited this singular building, whose construction stretches from 1898 to 1912, a very successful neo Romanesque style. The spreading of the works is partly due to tensions due to the law of separation of the Church and the State of 1905. The Church is one of the works put on display for the universal exposition of 1900. What makes the visit particularly interesting is the mosaics and stained glass Windows that decorate the chapels of Saint Anne, the Virgin and the sacred heart, which date from 1938. The Maumejean workshops have succeeded in the real flamboyant masterpieces of this art on religious themes. Likewise, the large polychrome stained-glass Windows that decorate the apse and the two lateral ones are superb. Beautiful stained glass Windows in the shape of a Lancet, with geometric shapes, chant the low sides. The Interior of the Church is a mixture of neo-Romanesque Byzantine style by the architect prosper Bobin (1844-1923), but part of the nave is under construction. It has been listed in the historical monuments since 2018. Large mosaics surround each Chapel altar including Mary's and the stages of her life. The chapel of the sacred heart is very well documented with mosaics depicting verses of the Gospel. The lying Christ is decorating the basement of the altar. Three superb stained glass Windows surmount the chapel on the theme of the passion of Christ. Then, the coats of arms of Breton towns and cities of pilgrimage are decorated around the chapel of Saint Anne. The large wall mosaic honors Anne, who appears to a Breton peasant in Auray in the seventeenth century. Two other mosaics depicting the Ark of Noah and a Dromon sailing from Brittany decorate the altar of St. Anne. Because originally, the population of the parish faithful at the time of its creation, was mostly Britons who came to work in the capital. The Miller chocolateries employed many workers and the owner family Jules and Honorine Lombard financed the construction of the Church. The two towers bear their first name. Finally, the stations of the way of the cross made of glazed terracotta, work of Edouard Dolbry (1896-1973), are exceptional. This church is worth the trip.

  • Very (too) out of the way this church from which I had been attracted to the distinctive façade but inside (restructuring) has little to show for it. Too bad
