  • I already visited this church a few years ago and I was disappointed because it was very dark. During my last visit, I found that the lighting was completely redone and highlights all the frescoes. I came especially for the two large paintings from the Church of the Trinity since 1992, which are finally very well lit and I could better appreciate these works majestic Lady Morgan-Snell, Brazilian painter, namely "Presentation of" the Virgin in the Temple"and"Virgin at Pentecost"painted in 1966.

  • The Church Saint Michel of Batignolles, is in the angle that forms (Clichy and Saint Ouen) avenues that leave from the fork in the 17th arrondissement. It is totally entrenched in the neighbouring buildings. But, thanks to its high steeple shaped Burgundy red brick campanile, she sees by far! It is located in the small square St. John and has a porch framed by a beautiful polychrome mosaic in marquee, which is at the base of the Bell Tower. The Bell Tower of square section, is covered with red brick of several tones. It is open from thin lancets and is topped by a kiosk in a hat with two open sides, of Byzantine style. Construction starts in 1913 then, after the war, she resumed to be completed in 1938, under the direction of the architect Bernard Haubold (1875-1955). The statue of Saint Michael Golden brass, has been placed on the ridge and is a replica of the Mont Saint Michel. 6 m high, it is the work of the sculptor Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910). One enters the Church by the right hand side, which is wide with a chapel of the "Virgin and child" to the right and a large fresco on the left wall representing Saint Michel cheered by soldiers, particularly expressive. The nave is in the shape of a Latin cross with two transepts. Large pillars in granite, with simple capitals, support the arcs of semicircular arch. The ups and downs side, are open from beautiful stained glass with polychrome geometric patterns. The base of the side bottom is open arcade arch with brick siding. The choir is topped with half an arch painted, representing "Jesus and his disciples" in two-toned and warm tones. All the frescoes of Byzantine style, are the work of Malespinat. The bottom of the vault is chanted to a succession of three groups of small stained-glass windows with Saints. The altar is decorated with mosaics La Pyrie granite. The chorus of Byzantine style, is framed by two large chapels to vault painted representing "The weighing of souls by Saint Michael" for the one dedicated to the Saint on the left. The other, on the right, represents "The Virgin and child" with an arch representing "The Annunciation to Mary" behind the choir, a gallery allows you to see beautiful paintings, of unspecified authors. The precious wooden pulpit, is double staircase in Sycamore, decorated with sculptures. The left transept houses a chapel of the sacred heart, with a large mural depicting the "life of St. Michael". Sculptures in wood, very well made, are arranged on the side, including a Pietà, Christ in the tomb and the descent from the cross, work of Albert Dubois. The great organ in red copper, are placed on a balcony and are retrieved from the Hotel Majestic in Paris in 1937. This church has a special atmosphere of serenity, with warm tones, strengthened by facing bricks in red, pink and yellow, Burgundy, with however a defect of brightness. It is best to visit before or after mass, because the light is on. It is accessible from the metro station "The forks" line 13, and then take the avenue of Clichy and Saint John Street, on the right. It is open from Tuesday to Friday from 8 h to 19 h, Monday from 16:30 to 19:30 and Saturday from 9 h to 19 h. Sunday mass is at 10:30.

  • 15 minute bell tolls
  • Latin quarter..... Certainly.! But much more interest because very touristy and apart from some monuments it is more and more cosmopolitan and not good.
