  • This church is located street of the Issoire falls to no. 20 in the 14th arrondissement at 100 m from the boulevard Saint-Jacques and the metro station. Note that one who has positioned this church in terms of TRIPAdvisor near the villa Seurat, placed it in the wrong place at 700 meters from each of the real place. This is unnecessarily wasting a lot of time and energy! It is at the time of Napoleon III, this neighborhood people with buildings, after the construction of the Port Royal boulevard, by Haussmann. Is that in 1913, the building begins to leave Earth, but the war stop the construction. It was completed in 1921 by the architect Georges Gaudibert, which adopts the style Byzantine romano fashionable at the time. It benefits from the technological evolutions of the moment, with a structure in reinforced concrete with a filler in brick and stone. Inside is then coated with a coating, which allows to lower construction costs. This church will become a reference of construction in this technique. The architect has also widely used "Art Déco" another fashion of the time. The appeal of this church is undoubtedly his murals and its stained glass windows, which are for the most part of 1940. The glassmaker and atelier Mauméjean, contributed to the stained glass windows of the choir and the way of the cross in mosaic of beauty. The nave is with large bow and pillars, with a dome open in apse, with stained-glass windows above the altar, decorated with mural. This painting evokes "The word and the word" in a rather dark style. Christ, in the center of the dome, represents the verb. The word is symbolized by St. John the Baptist on the fresco on the left and the Angel on the right. The crossroads of the nave is topped by a large dome 26 m high and 12 m in diameter, decorated in circumferential by friezes in relief and crafted. It is opened by two rows of windows that illuminate the space. The pillars end with cantilevers in gradient "Art Déco" style. The Chair has a superb polychrome mosaic which represents St. Dominic. Both forums are located to each side of the nave with access by a staircase spiral staircase openwork. The side chapels dedicated to the Virgin, the Sacred Heart and Saint Catherine of Siena, are decorated with magnificent murals, works of Jeanne Simon, recounting the life of the Saint in the XIV century. The stained glass windows are various invoice, with the oldest behind the altar, of 1921, work of famous glassmaker Mauméjean. Those sides down, are the work of the glass masters barrel and the Knight of 1940. Arriving, we see immediately the building style shaped topped Latin cross of the great dome, with its openings in arabesques. The South Portal is interesting with the mosaic in the tympanum. A truncated turret is a hypothetical primer parochial unfinished! This church is a highly original work, which has no equal in Paris. The staff is friendly and attentive and feels a remarkable community of shared ideas.
