  • This church, with its austere exterior appearance, is located at no. 10 Rue de l'annciation, in what remains of the old quarter of Passy. It is built in 1666, while the village of Passy lies outside the walls of Paris, populated by growers and winegrowers. Enlarged in 1846 in a refined classic style, only the pillars of the nave are original. The front side of the street, is two levels with a top marquee and a tympanum above the porch framed by ionic columns. The tympanum of the sculptor Charles Gumery (1827-1871) represents the Annunciation to Mary. The steeple of square section and topped by a roof steep style "village", is at the end of the nave and dates from 1846. In 1856, the architect Eugène Debressenne (1813-1893), who enlarged the building, added the chapels of the sacred heart, and the Virgin, at the end of the nave. The Church is of simple form without transept, with a long nave with flat ceiling to large coffers. It is illuminated by stained glass with predominantly yellow geometric designs, which diffuse a soft light. The lower sides are equipped with historical stained glass Windows, on the ceiling, which is very rare in Paris. The peculiarities of this church are the five splendid frescoes, which surround the choir, on the ceiling of the vault, on the sides and on the foliage of the arches. These frescoes are the work of Gabriel Bouret and are painted in oil, circa 1847. They relate in particular to the old testament, with Isaiah, the sacrifice of Isaac, Adam and Eve, the Ark of the Covenant and the Annunciation to Mary. The low brightness does not make them easy to observe. The altar is marble-style rockery and dates from King Charles X. The choir is decorated with a statue of the Virgin and child who, during my visit, was illuminated by a ray of sunlight through the stained glass, beautiful effect!! The ambulatory around the choir is populated with beautiful statues and above all it leads to the beautiful chapel of the sacred choir. This Chapel lies beyond the choir and is entirely decorated with frescoes, from the walls to the ceiling, under a dome to oculus. These frescoes relate the life of Christ with a ceiling covered with medallions. On the left, the chapel of the Virgin is illuminated by beautiful stained glass Windows, including the coronation in a half-moon stained-glass window. The large organs, placed on a portico, are decorated with lyre drawing formwork with a central stained-glass window in the Latin cross of modern style. The precise information about the opening hours is not known, it is better to come before or after the masses, on Sundays at masses at 10h 30 and 12h, duration 1 h approx. It is accessible by metro station "Passy" line n ° 6. Then, you have to go up the rue de Alboni to rue Raynouard, which is taken to the left on the square. The street of the Annunciation is the 4th Street on the right. Approximately 600 m of travel in all.

  • Dating back to the 17th century, this church will experience expansions in the middle of the 19th century. Outside, you can admire the tympanum of the porch of the main entrance, a bas-relief of the sculptor Renommées, representing the Annunciation and just above on the front, the statue of the Madonna and child. Inside: the superb chorus with its frescoes by the painter Bouret, statues, the way of the cross in bas-relief, stained glass windows horizontally from the ceiling of the ambulatory, the organ of tribune... If you borrow the corridor leading to the home, in the new part on the right side of the Church, where the parish made available for concerts, rooms conferences... You'll find two large paintings and a fresco of the Apostles. This recent part overlooks the square of the father Marcellin Champagna, which is actually the front of the Church where there is also a former Wallace Fountain. The Bell Tower and its entrance gives on the Abbot Gillet on the left rear side of the side street. Come by RER (stations "Station of President Kennedy avenue" or "Station of square") or metro (stations "Passy" or "La Muette"). A nice visit.
