Notre-Dame-d'Auteuil is a Roman Catholic church on the Auteuil hill in the 16e arrondissement de Paris.
Auteuil was originally a hamlet and commune with its own parish, and it was only in 1860 that it was merged into Paris. The present church was finished in 1892, having been designed in the Romano-Byzantine style by the architectural practice of Joseph Auguste Émile Vaudremer, the diocesan architect. 63m long and rectangular in plan, it has a 50m high spire. Its organ has 3 manual and pedal keyboards (both electrically powered) and 53 jeux/71 rangs, and is characterised by its high quality, best adapted for Romantic music such as that of Widor or Dupré. Its original organ, by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, has been rebuilt in Trocadéro.

  • It is not, of course, the most beautiful church you may find in Paris but it worth a short visit if in the area.  more »
  • This church is well established in 1892 on the Hill of the village of Auteuil, who had been integrated into Paris under Napoleon III in 1860. She has the rectangular shape with a Bell Tower in the form of pastry and a fairly ornate portal. On the left of the entrance, you can see a Virgin in the foot to the child and a vault carved with a tympanum representing Christ with a holy book. The motto "I am the vine and you the branch" is represented by intertwined vines. The inside is dark with a nave bordered by an ambulatory curved arch and columns made of cross-shaped pillars. But it is impossible to distinguish the paintings of the vault of the nave so this one is blackened. The chorus, is topped by a high apse Byzantine style painted and gilded representing Christ "Pantocrator" (IE as a glorified as in the Orthodox religion and the Byzantine Art image). The altar is made of copper sheet covered with gold in the form of Ark of the Covenant and of the Seraphim are spread around. The polychrome stained glass windows are of good quality and illuminate a little chorus and very little the nave while the Sun is shining outside. Major organs are drowned in the dark! On the right as you enter, you can see a chapel where a statue of Pierre Henri Lamazou former curate and Auteuil then Bishop of Limoges died in 1883. Each background fake transept has a structure representing an allegory with Christ, in golden sculpture. This church is served by the metro station "Church of Auteuil" line no. 10
