Bois de Boulogne, Paris

#21 of 143 in Parks in Paris
Built during the reign of Emperor Louis Napoleon, Bois de Boulogne is a large public park near Boulogne-Billancourt and Neuilly-sur-Seine. The second largest park in Paris, it is three times larger than Central Park in New York. Stroll through an English landscape garden with several lakes and a cascade, two smaller botanical and landscape gardens, and a complex of greenhouses holding a hundred thousand plants. You also can find a zoo and amusement park in the Jardin d'Acclimatation, two tracks for horse racing, the Hippodrome de Longchamp and the Auteuil Hippodrome, a tennis stadium where the French Open tennis tournament is held each year, and other attractions. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Paris holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Bois de Boulogne and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The park is well in fact not a park but many different types of parks and settlements. Unfortunately it was rainy when we visited it, and no matter the umbrellas, then it is not the best weather to wander around in a park. We started with the Louis Vuitton Fondation building (see Review) and went on after the signs to the Palais Royal, a nicely large beautiful cottage with separate guest wing, a bit in a historicist country style. In front of the building is a beautiful lake with stands-not strange that the mansion should lie just here, and so even not so far from the city. The onward walk led us to the Palais Dauphine, which is nothing short of a gem in Art Nouveau-a style as reviewed in Guimard ́s metro station Porte Dauphine.

  • Nice park for a run. The LV foundation is also interesting to check out.
  • Beautiful park for running or a weekend stroll. You can disappear into the forest (even on weekends) and enjoy nature while still being very close to Paris. It is very peaceful and I love running through the woods. Easy access from the 16th but worth the trip from other places in Paris too if you are looking to escape the crowds.
