#4 of 4,341 in Historic Sites in France
You'll recognize Basilique du Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre by its picture-perfect white stone. The basilica remains white even with weathering and pollution, due to its construction with travertine stone, which exudes the mineral calcite. Before entering, take a look up at the Equestrian Statue of King Saint Louis on the left and the Equestrian Statue of Saint Joan of Arc on the right. When you enter, you're surrounded by interesting artifacts and art, including the mosaic in the apse entitled "Christ in Majesty,” which is among the largest in the world. Join the daily Catholic mass or meditate at the fountain in the gardens. To visit Basilique du Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre on your trip to Paris, use our Paris trip app .

  • I've been there a couple of times but haven't seen it for almost 10 years before this visit: man, what a downgrade. Don't get me wrong, the Basilique is a beautiful building, the view from its stairwa...  more »
  • The perfect complement for a walk through the beautiful district of Montmartre. The Church itself is impressive, magnificent. I find more beautiful than Notre Dame. Situated on the hill that gives you a perfect view for relaxing to drink in your stairs, many sellers (often African immigrants) of beers and memories that cargosean a little. Complete the visit with a walk through the quarter ending at the most famous Mills Parisians is priceless!
