8th Arrondissement, Paris

4.7
Take in quintessential Paris at 8th Arrondissement, home to the Champs-Elysees and Arc de Triomphe, and packed with high-end shops, restaurants, and hotels. Stroll the tree-lined Champs-Elysees, one of the country's best-known roads, and you'll pass a riotous array of cafes and souvenir shops and eventually arrive at the massive traffic circle around the Arc de Triomphe. Experience the swirling masses of cars and people here, a side effect of the district's position in Paris' business nexus, and view the 50 m (164 ft) arch. Also part of the neighborhood, Place de la Concorde represents the city's biggest square replete with embassies, fountains, and other ornate buildings. Don't miss the "golden triangle," one of Paris' most popular shopping areas full of boutique stores. • My choice of title does not mean that this is my favorite borough. It comes after the neighborhoods of the Ile de la Cité, the Latin quarter, and perhaps also Montmartre for example. But we must go to the obvious, when we possess the most beautiful avenue of the world that are the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe, the place de la Concorde, the place de la Madeleine, the Grand and the Petit Palais, the Pont Alexandre III and the infamous bridge of the Alma, the Palais de l'élysée, the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, the Salle Pleyel, palaces like the Crillon or the Bristol, and I pass, no other Borough or district is the weight. The 8th is the example that illustrates the habit of saying that every street in Paris reveals a monument where other surprises are hidden. It is a borough where it is good to live and where it is nice to walk around with lots of shops and sites of interest. It is a must!

  • Lots to see in this upper class part of Paris, especially the Champs Elysee and the Arc. Lots of expensive restaurants and hotels. Very classy apartment buildings.  more »
