20th Arrondissement, Paris

3.0
The 20th arrondissement, located on the Right Bank, is one of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France. It contains the cosmopolitan districts of Ménilmontant and Belleville which have welcomed many successive waves of immigration since the mid-nineteenth century. Despite this, the arrondissement elected and was represented by the anti-immigration National Front politician Jean-Marie Le Pen, as a municipal councillor from 1983-1989. Today, Belleville contains the second-largest Chinatown in Paris.
The 20th arrondissement is also internationally known for the Père Lachaise Cemetery where one can find the tombs of many famous composers, writers, painters, musicians, and the playwright Molière.

  • Contrary to what I read, knowing little about Paris, it's a big surprise because the area of Place Gambetta, it's a neighborhood check with shops everywhere, very friendly traders, provincial products that we do not see necessarily in the region! And yes, oysters from Marennes, breast from the southwest, cheese ... all of France. public transport within reach, a hospital, restaurants.... frankly, my children will live there and we are reassured.

  • In the past, it was said that the area around Alexandre Dumas subway station was not very safe in the popular area, but recently organic shops and fashionable cafes have increased. There are few hotels, but if you want to rent an apartment, this area is the best choice.
