20th Arrondissement, Paris

2.9
The 20th arrondissement, located on the Right Bank, is one of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France. It contains the cosmopolitan districts of Ménilmontant and Belleville which have welcomed many successive waves of immigration since the mid-nineteenth century. Despite this, the arrondissement elected and was represented by the anti-immigration National Front politician Jean-Marie Le Pen, as a municipal councillor from 1983-1989. Today, Belleville contains the second-largest Chinatown in Paris. The 20th arrondissement is also internationally known for the Père Lachaise Cemetery where one can find the tombs of many famous composers, writers, painters, musicians, and the playwright Molière.

  • This District is known especially for the cemetery of Lachaise, for the rest there are local and shops but not particularly impressed.

  • We lived there in the borough for three months. Besides the fact that the rooms are very small, there was nothing to do. There are other neighborhoods that are not really for visitors. It was dirty and the surrounding at night was very dangerous. If you can, avoid this overpaid borough as a side of the 19th arrondissement.
