  • It was hard to believe when we were there. They are amazing animals. Felt lucky to see them. We then ate in an open air restaurant on the edge of the preserve and continued to watch them.  more »
  • El Chato's ranch is located on the top of Santa Cruz Island, easily accessible from Puerto Ayora by taxi ride. Already from the main road you can sense that the place is very beautiful: you drive along a very long tree-lined boulevard that leads to the reserve. Admission costs USD 5 per person, but all in all it deserves them. After a cup of tea or welcome coffee, they explain how the visit works - which you can make yourself. Walking through the reserve won't be long before you have your first encounters with giant tortoises that stroll placidly or wallow cheerfully in the pond. Inside the reserve it is also possible to visit a couple of lava tunnels, very impressive. Once you've finished your visit you can slip into some giant carapaces to take souvenir photos. Definitely El Chato is worth a visit!
