Castillo Hidalgo, Santiago
Enjoy panoramic views over Santiago at Castillo Hidalgo. Built on the command of the Governor of Chile in 1816, the hilltop fort was designed to defend Spanish colonial interests from nationalist forces. After the country gained independence, the fort was renamed after fallen captain Manuel Hidalgo. For a building designed for defense, the fort displays ostentatious architecture, indicative of late Spanish colonialism. Shaded garden areas surround the fort, with the city laid out at the foot of the hill. Castillo Hidalgo is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Santiago Edition.

Castillo Hidalgo Reviews
Interesante centro de eventos, en pleno centro de Santiago a media altura en pleno cerro Santa Lucía. more »Interesting event center, in the center of Santiago at half height in the middle of Santa Lucia hill.

The promenade yields good panoramic views and is a free alternative to the cable car and Sky Costanera. Wear sneakers with anti-slip sole if you want to go to the sights on the ridge, because the stairs can get wet due to the irrigation of the plants or to natural causes and the risk of rolling down the hill is great. I do not advise taking children to the top, because the handrails give little protection.
Great place to visit! True Oasis from the busy streets of Santiago and don't forget to visit the trendy la starria neighborhood after you're done. Don't miss out on climbing all the way to the top for a great panoramic view!
What a wonderful oasis in the heart of the big city! My wife and I took a stroll through Castillo Hidalgo and the rest of the park on our first day in Santiago, Chile. It blew us away. Expecting a small, square type of park, we were pleasantly surprised when welcomed by the various flora and the breathtaking views from atop the castle.
