Rappel into the darkness to discover cave life at Abismo Anhumas. Make a reservation for your rappeling adventure at least one month in advance, as tours are given in small groups. You will be provided with equipment and a guide who will take you to the mouth of the cave. You’ll rappel 72 m (236.2 ft) into the cave where you will put on your snorkeling gear and submerge yourself into the dark water for a swim. After you’ve observed the underwater species via headlamp--and your guide has given the lowdown on the cave ecosystem--you'll climb out of the cave up its jagged wall. It is worth the work for the exhilaration of exploring the watery underground the way the experts do. To visit Abismo Anhumas on your trip to Bonito, use our Bonito route planner.

Wow was this incredible. I did the scuba diving and would definitely recommend it. We dove amongst some beautiful stalagmites and saw fossilized bones from an anteater that had fallen to its death... more »

Amazing! The tour starts by placing the equipment and receiving instructions from a very helpful and professional staff-the equipment is provided by the Tour team. The entrance into the abyss is made by a crack in the ground, making a rappelling of 72 meters high. Only after passing through the narrow part of the rift you can see the size of the abyss, it's unbelievable. The descent is very exciting and safe, it is worth descending slowly admiring the limestone formations and the lagoon. The rappelling ends on a wooden platform, which is where it puts the wetsuit to make the flotation. The water is well chilled, but the neoprene clothing keeps the body isolated, at a pleasant temperature. After exploring the cave and taking lots of pictures it's time to go up. The exit is also made by rope, the person has to do the ascension on his own, with help only of the equipment, but it is very quiet for those who are accustomed to exercises-the day before it takes a test to see who can climb.
