Queen's Staircase, Nassau

4.1
Step back in time as you climb Queen's Staircase, a historic monument that honors Queen Victoria's lengthy reign. Built in 1794 of limestone rock using slave labor, the monument carries the name of the monarch who signed a declaration to abolish slavery in 1837. Ascend the 65 narrow steps to the top of Bennet's Hill, where you can admire the ruins of Fort Fincastle. • Built by the slaves who were freed by Queen Victoria, beautiful place to see! Luckily we walked down the staircase, not up!  more »

  • The fort & staircase are nice to visit if you have the time, but don't expect to be blown away. Easy to go to by walk or taxi from downtown. Free entrance to the complex, however there is a 3 dollar charge for the fort. Views are nice from the top as the fort is the highest place in Nassau.
  • A jewel to discover during your visit to Nassau. The 66 step staircase has a meaningful history. The beautiful garden and waterfall seems to celebrate the joy of freedom that is symbolized here. Worth the visit for not only photos but a moment of reflection on our sufferings, humanity and future.
