Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires

One of the city's main squares, Plaza de Mayo has long served as a hub for protests, activism, and political activity in the capital. Originally laid out in the late 16th century, the square features palm trees, gardens, and grassy stretches, all surrounded by historical buildings. The year 1810 saw the start of the nation's revolution against Spain begin here, and you'll likely see some sort of march or rally during your visit. Do take the opportunity to inspect the white obelisk in the center, a commemoration of the country's first year of independence from Spain. • Famous because the mothers of May gathered there, circulating around the monolith asking for the return of their missing children during the dictatorship; Today some tiles on the floor with his symbolic handkerchief remembers them. There is the Pink House, seat of the government, surrounded by an iron fence so that the many manifestations that are made in the square do not reach your door, the Cabildo, of the few buildings of colonial architecture that are preserved in Buenos Aires , and the cathedral.

  • The Plaza de Mayo is pleasant to offer a central point, being the front of the Casa Rosada and near the cathedral, besides this place offers free Wifi, so it is interesting to use the square to rest and enjoy the architecture. For photos beyond the Casa Rosada and the cathedral the Argentine flag (in sunny days) provides a beautiful photo to record the visit in the land of the Hermanos.

  • Probably the place with most history in Argentina. Definitely worth a stop there to get an overview of all the antiquebuildongs. I would account approximately 30-60min depending how was you walk. Probably a guide or something similar would be helpful.
  • The museum is very well designed and structured, with access to all people. The park is well taken care of and is a nice place to sit on the grass or a bank and see the birds and everything.
